I have spent around 25 years building websites and nearly 14 years teaching learners to drive in Aberdeen. SimpL OS brings those two parts of my working life together.
I understood what technology could do, but I also understood the reality of an instructor’s day: moving between lessons, keeping learners progressing and trying not to lose evenings to administration.
For most of my time as an instructor, I still organised my working day with pen and paper because it was often quicker.
I tried some of the best-known driving school apps, but I often found them too demanding. Adding learners, recording progress, writing lesson summaries and keeping everything updated meant more typing, more screens and more time spent managing the app.
Instead of saving time, the software sometimes felt like another job. Pen and paper was simply quicker.
“I didn’t want technology for the sake of technology. I wanted the speed of pen and paper, with the benefits of a properly connected system.”
I stopped asking, “What feature should I build next?” and started asking, “What task shouldn’t exist at all?”
That changed the direction of the product. A learner should enter their own details instead of the instructor copying them. Lesson notes should be spoken naturally instead of typed twice. Progress, reflections and lesson history should form one useful picture instead of living in separate places.
Less typing. Fewer steps. Less admin. Those principles still guide every part of SimpL OS.
A booking app records what is in the diary. SimpL OS is designed to understand the instructor’s working day around that diary.
Before lessons, it can surface the next pupil, road information and anything needing attention. During the day, it keeps lessons, learners, payments and progress connected. After the final lesson, it confirms what is complete, highlights any follow-up and then gets out of the way.
Good instruction is not a collection of scores and boxes. The real picture develops through lessons, instructor observations, progress and the learner’s own reflections.
SimpL OS brings those parts together into a driving profile that can help both sides see what is improving, what keeps appearing and what should come next. AI helps organise that information, but it never replaces the instructor’s judgement.
SimpL OS is not designed to put its own brand between an instructor and their learners. Instructors can use their driving-school logo, review links, social profiles and preferred communication style across the learner experience.
The aim is simple: help independent instructors look professional, stay organised and build a stronger business—without making their working day more complicated.
SimpL OS has moved beyond testing and into real working days with instructors and learners. Feedback is not treated as a wishlist added on top. It is used to simplify workflows, remove duplication and make the system feel more natural.
It was built by an ADI, for ADIs—and it will keep developing that way.
